Reverse Osteoporosis and Relieve Pain with a Magnetic Mattress
By Dr. Robert Jay Rowen, M.D.
Extracted from the highly recommended health, nutrition, and medicine newsletter, "SECOND OPINION", Vol. XIII, NO.2
February 2003.Last month, I introduced you to Dr. Dean Bonlie, president of the Scientific Committee of the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy, who has discovered a way to use magnets to treat everything from fibromyalgia to cancer to bone loss. And the best news is, there's plenty of science to back up his findings, so you can rest assured that what I'm about to tell you isn't hype.
You learned last month that the negative pull of a magnet is beneficial for those living in the northern hemisphere of the earth, while the positive field has unwanted effects on the body (and vice versa in the southern hemisphere). You also found out that the typical magnetic mattress (such as Nikken) has magnets placed apart from each other, so parts of your body are getting the beneficial negative field, while other parts are bathed in deleterious positive energy. Magnetic experts believe that prolonged exposures to this type of magnetic field can have very deleterious effects on the body.
In part one of this article, I mentioned that Dr. Bonlie has designed a magnetic mattress that solves this problem. The technique involves use of much stronger magnets, placed immediately adjacent to each other. The health benefits of this system are absolutely amazing, so this month, I'd like to share with you some of the incredible results Dr. Bonlie has seen with his mattress.
The magnetic mattress goes under your regular mattress. This feature eliminates any possible exposure to a positive field. It's not recommended that you turn over 180 degrees at night (from front to back), which would effectively change polarity orientation to your body (side to side is okay). Disordered body areas will likely do best if they are facing down (toward the pads). So if your back hurts, sleep on your back.
What kind of results can you expect to see? As with every treatment, some will see more benefits than others. But preliminary studies and case reports indicate there's potential for astounding therapeutic and preventive properties.
Fibromyalgia - A fibromyalgia study performed at the University of Virginia on 119 participants evaluated the effect of the unipolar magnetic mattress compared to the bipolar Nikken mattress and two non-magnetic mattresses. While all groups improved, the unipolar mattress significantly reduced pain, but there was no significant difference between Nikken mattresses and non-magnetic ones. Another study on fibromyalgia, in 20 patients sleeping on the unipolar mattress for six months, documented excellent improvement in 25 percent, with 60 percent experiencing some improvement.
Chronic fatigue syndrome - A pilot study conducted by Dr. Bonlie and Carolyn DeMarco, MD on six of her worst chronic fatigue syndrome patients showed significant improvement in all studied parameters: sleep, sense of well being, hours of work, post exercise fatigue, and cognitive ability, with 72 percent of the symptoms showing improvement.
Cancer - In an observational study on 924 people (out of 1,127 who started the study) over an average period of 3.5 years, there was a dramatic 78 percent reduction in the incidence of new cancer development over what would have been expected. (I have recently heard of cancer remissions with use of this mattress system, but it's too early to report further on this. So stay tuned!)
Cardiovascular health - A study on 88 volunteers exercising in a five gauss negative field for six minutes, after first exercising without the field, showed an increased oxygen saturation of 5.93 percent. Their average heart rate decreased 13.15 percent in this exercise observational study. After six weeks of sleeping on a unipolar sleep pad, world-class bodybuilder Tom Hanley found his performances increased by 20-47 percent without an increase in heart rate. He did not otherwise change his routine in any way or use drugs.
Part of this effect could be explained by the profound changes in red blood cell morphology observed under a dark-field microscope. One hundred thirty consecutive individuals at an Orlando trade show tested positive for clumping of red cells, a condition that leads to stagnation of blood flow in capillaries. Clumping often results from a reduced negative charge on the cell surface. Highly negatively charged cells easily repel each other. After just 20 minutes on the sleep pad, clumping disappeared in every
case, evidence of improved cell charge and oxygen carrying capacity.Osteoporosis - In what may be the most significant use for the sleep pads, I discovered some startling information. Dr. Bonlie kindly provided me with copies of the bone density dexa scans of Janet, who is a PhD, from before and after a nine-month period of sleeping on a unipolar magnetic mattress. The original showed bone thinning (with a T score of -1.72 in the spine). This score improved to a respectable -.53 doing nothing except sleeping on the magnetic mattress. Dr. Bonlie's wife, Joyce, saw her average T score increase from 0.4 in May 1998 to 0.8 in July 2001.
And then there's Karen, who used the "typical" magnetic mattress and saw her T score fall from a borderline score of -2.0 to a very dangerous -2.8 in less than one year. She then ordered the unipolar mattress. Thirteen months later, her T score jumped to -1.9. (Scientific note: For clarification, the actual weight density of bone for Karen's respective tests were: .353mg/cm2, .278mg/cm2, and .372/cm2. Thus, bone mineral density jumped 74.7 percent in just one year!)
In a nine-month study on five patients, three saw significant improvement in bone density, while the remaining two had no further deterioration. Treatment was dose responsive, with a 20 gauss field providing the best results.
Wow, those are dramatic changes in a disease process that relentlessly cripples many women, and can be most difficult to treat. So confident that the unipolar mattress he developed will help osteoporosis, Dr. Bonlie's company, Magnetico Inc., has offered an unbelievable, virtually no risk guarantee to its customers. The company will refund 90 percent of the purchase price of the mattress if a woman will provide two dexa scans showing no improvement in bone density, with the first taken before mattress
use, and the second within 365 days.For all other users, such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, arthritis, PMS, and general preventive users, the company will accept unconditional returns, no question asked, and refund 90 percent of the purchase price up to six months from date of purchase. To me, this is a no-lose proposition. For some very hard-to-treat problems, you can try a wonderful modality with virtually no financial risk.
Are there any problems using enhanced earth magnetic field mattresses? In the short term, there could be headaches, dull aches, or a temporary aggravation of symptoms. In fact, my wife experienced headaches the first few days. On Dr. Bonlie's advice, she began using DMSA before bed, a mercury chelator. The headaches promptly stopped - an observation noted by Dr. Bonlie on many other users. One physician user, who had thought he chelated all the last vestiges of mercury out of his body with every known form of chelation and had repeated near zero mercury levels in his urine, had a small rise in mercury excretion sleeping on the mattress the next night. When he added DMSA, on the following night, in addition to the mattress, his mercury elimination doubled! I, too, had some type of elimination response.
After using the mattress for three weeks, I experienced unusually painful nodules along my sternum, known in conventional medicine as costochondritis. Assuming it was merely my body throwing off toxins from within my chest, I remained patient. Within a week, it cleared completely. (I did add DMSA, 250 mg at night.)
I believe we are just opening up the frontiers of magnetic therapy.
While Magnetico also sells the small magnets for local therapy, Dr. Bonlie honestly admits his magnets are of no greater benefit than similar magnets available at Radio Shack or the multipolar magnets available from Nikken, so check prices if you are going to use local magnetic therapy. The duration and frequency of treatment is a difficult question and depends on the health of the individual, says Dr. Bonlie. Those with low vitality should not use a local magnet for longer than one hour a day. Those with high vitality wishing to treat carpal tunnel syndrome, for instance, could try it up to eight hours daily, but no longer than three weeks, unless there's a response.
When it comes to "nutritional" supplementation of the nourishing but waning magnetic field of our planet, though, I would definitely recommend only the MagnetiCo unipolar field sleep pads.

Magnetic Mattress/Sleep PadIn striving to live a holistic lifestyle, with so much emphasis on what we eat and drink it's easy to forget about the need to be surrounded by a beneficial magnetic field, which all life needs in order to function properly. The earth naturally emits a nourishing magnetic field-but in these modern times, the abnormal amount of electromagnetic pollution from electrical wiring, cars, refrigerators and other appliances, communications towers, computers, etc., causes abnormal changes iii the body's chemistry at the atomic level that make one susceptible to a wide range of mental and physical health problems ranging from headaches to cancer. Many companies now sell magnetic mattress pads to help the system realign its electromagnetic field.
The problem is all magnets--even those designed for "unified negative field" mattress pads-radiate South Pole peaks to a greater or lesser degree, depending on their size, strength and placement. While North Pole (SouthPole-seeking, negative charge) magnetism provides harmonious healthy support, South Pole (North Pole-seeking, positive charge) magnetism is interpreted by the brain as an "injury," which causes the brain to send electrical energy to help the body heal what is actually a pseudo injury if one is sleeping on a magnetic pad under a sheet. While initially very energizing, applying South Pole/positive magnetism to the body over too long a period of time can deplete the brain's electrical energy and thus create problems. (This is why single magnets should not be continuously applied to the body for more than a few days at a time. An "on, off, on, off etc." policy will give the system a chance to restore itself from any South Pole/positive energy it has received.) Of the many companies touting the benefits of magnets and magnetic mattresses, MagnetiCo Inc. is the only manufacturer that has done its homework on two counts.
First, it has produced truly healing, scientifically sound sleeping pads (in different gauss strengths, one of which is engineered to produce a negative field equivalent to that of the earth 4,000 years ago, when the planet's magnetic field was optimum).
Second, MagnetiCo sleeping pads are much heavier than other pads (the queen size weighs eighty-five pounds)-specially constructed to go under the mattress so that there is at least four inches between the person and the magnetic pad. This ensures that the user receives only pure North Pole/negative magnetic energy. The company offers a six-month money-back guarantee, provided you give the sleeping pad a fair trial and use it for at least four months. This remarkable arrangement--the company won't take it back unless it's used-indicates its integrity and confidence that the products will indeed deliver what they promise. In fact, the MagnetiCo sleeping pad has been tested and approved by the Canadian government as a licensed medical device for which a physician may write a prescription.
There is no extra investment of time for this therapeutic modality because it literally works while you sleep; you don't have to do anything except lie down. Dealer Kallie Miller, an experienced nurse, tells me that she has seen all kinds of amazing improvements for people suffering from Arthritis, Cancer, insomnia, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia, depression, chemical sensitivity, prostitutes, high blood pressure, Osteoporosis, Emphysema, back injuries-the list is endless. Ask Kallie to send you videotape of dentist/inventor Dean Bonlie lecturing about magnetic fields; you'll learn some important and amazing facts (including why people living in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres require opposite polarity pads). If the tape isn't enough to convince you of the scholarship and science behind the creation of these pads, "sleep on it." You owe it to your health and wellbeing." End quote

Multiple Attributes of the Magnetic Mattress
In 1976, a Japanese researcher in medical physics, Kyoichi Nakagawa, MD, medical director of the Isuzu Hospital in Tokyo, finally published his 1956 discovery that the natural magnetic field of the earth had declined by at least 50% in less than half-a-millennium. Then, Dr. Nakagawa further alarmed physicists by showing how the earth's magnetism has reduced over 5% more just during the last century, indicating that there is an acceleration in the rate of geomagnetic field decrease. (1) Such a diminishing of the planet's magnetism has a direct deleterious effect on human health because of its biological stressfulness and subsequent production of numerous adverse symptoms.
Dr. Nakagawa named the specific symptomatic pathology he had uncovered, the "magnetic field deficiency syndrome." Characteristic symptoms he identified at the time included "-stiffness of the shoulders, back and scruff of the neck: idiopathic lumbago; chest pains from no particular cause; habitual headaches and heaviness of the head; dizziness and insomnia for uncertain reasons; constant constipation; general lassitude, etc." But the magnetic field deficiency syndrome is known today to go far beyond those limited symptoms.
It's currently recognized by health professionals informed about the effects of our planet's lessened magnetic energy that a variety of other physical, mental, and emotional ills are appearing. An epidemic is in the making, and it's directly related to the steadily reducing geomagnetic field. The onset of additional health difficulties which have been identified include rheumatic and arthritic diseases of many types, stressed and tight muscles, premenstrual syndrome, migraines, generalized back stiffness, insomnia, poor athletic performance, various allergies, addictions, hypertension, nonhealing fractures, osteoporosis and other forms of bone demineralization, post polio syndrome, multiple sclerosis. disseminated lupus erythematosis, parkinsonianism, asthma, emphysema, chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, and fibromyalgia.
According to Dr. Nakagawa, all of the difficulties he had identified are effectively relieved and eliminated by use of externally applied magnetic fields coming from ordinary magnets. (2) The more recently uncovered additional symptoms seemingly respond with even greater efficacy to magnetic therapy, especially when employing the negative magnetic field.

Trent Nichols, MD, Finds Fibromyalgia and Other Symptoms Disappear by Magnetic Mattress Use"I use the magnetic mattress for myself and for patients on a regular basis. It is an integral part of my treatment protocols. For instance, it allows me to get by with fewer hours of sleep. I once had been tired all the time, but no more. Fatigue has disappeared by my sleeping on negative poled magnets laminated into my mattress. Now I need just six hours on the mattress to feel fully refreshed each morning," says Trent Nichols, MD, of Hanover, Pennsylvania. "And my wife benefits from sleeping on it as well. Her skin pain arising even from acupuncture and additional neurosensitivities have disappeared.
"For my patients. I have them sleep on the magnetic I mattress for relieving the discomforts of herniated disks, cervical disk pain, and low back trouble. Although I have no studies on the subject, my impression is that just putting people on the bed pad for a good night of sleep with the mattress with the magnetism coming from the north (-) pole - never the south (+) pole - reduces their incidence of heart attacks and strokes also," states Dr. Nichols. "I've had occasion to dispense the magnetic mattress to world class competitive cyclists who took the beds with them during their competitions at the Tour de France.
"Of all the serious conditions presenting pain as a major difficulty, the condition of fibromyalgia responds most quickly and fully to sleeping on the negative poles of a magnetic mattress. Nearly all of my fibromyalgia patients get rid of their problem completely within a year by sleeping on the MagnetiCo magnetic mattress," Dr. Nichols stated. "Their indices improved. They say, "I can go longer now without feeling any pain; I don't need so much sleep; I have fewer pain trigger points; my joints have stopped hurting; my mental activity is better." Unquestionably, therefore, for fibromyalgia, the treatment I most often prescribe is the magnetic mattress. It is highly effective, and patients love the product's ease of treatment application.
"One of my patients improved her gastric motility by sleeping on a magnetic pad. Her slow gastric emptying caused constant nausea, early satiety, and a feeling of stomach fullness. These symptoms have all become better by magnetic
mattress use," affirms Dr. Trent Nichols. "Furthermore, a clinical impression I have is that the negative magnetic field incorporated exclusively into the mattress product developed by Dr. Dean Bonlie is improving the quality of life in cancer patients who use it."North (-) Magnetic Field Experiences of Jonathan Wright, MD
The integrative medicine physician, Jonathan Wright, MD. from Kent, Washington, told me about a 45-year-old corporate executive he successfully treated for fibromyalgia. "My patient had been feeling many discomforts which were typical of the disease," Dr. Wright said. "But after I acquired a magnetic mattress for her upon which she might receive a full night's sleep, this executive found that her symptoms disappeared altogether. Later she confirmed for herself that the mattress, indeed, was responsible for bringing her relief. It became obvious when she traveled away from home and went without sleeping on the negative magnetism. Many of the fibromyalgia symptoms then returned. Upon making use of her own magnetic bed again, fibromyalgia discomforts were eliminated.
My wife and I have been sleeping on a bed pad offering the negative magnetic field for about a dozen years. Our sleeping pad contains permanent, ceramic magnets giving off 3950 Gauss of energy to allow one's body to operate at a higher level of efficiency, " Dr. Wright explained. "The result is that we find ourselves needing a half-hour less sleep than previously required, yet we experience greater amounts of sustainable energy."
Some Definitions Used in Magnetic Science
Gauss is a unit of magnetic field intensity named after the 19th-century German pioneer in the study of magnetism, Karl Friedrich Gauss. Both electric and magnetic fields are really just abstractions which scientists have created for describing electricity's and magnetism's actions at a distance, produced by no known intervening material or energy. Gauss is the scientific community's recognized standard of measurement.Fields are represented by lines of force, another abstraction, to indicate the directions and shapes of geomagnetic micro- or macropulsations. Fields of electricity and magnetism decline with distance, but their influences are technically infinite.
In his book, The Body Electric: Electromagnetism and the Foundation of Life, orthopedic surgeon Robert O. Becker, M.D. of Syracuse, New York, writes: "Every time you use your toaster, the fields around it perturb charged particles in the farthest galaxies ever so slightly."
The Biochemistry of Magnetic Fields
Jan Walleczek, pH, a researcher at Stanford University points out in his book chapter, "Magneticokinetic Effect of Radical Pairs," that there is a temporal type of resonance (intensity window) for enzymatic reactions.' Dr. Walleczek reviews previous work by others, demonstrating that the interaction mechanism within magnetic fields with chemical reactions in living systems as biochemical reactions involving species having unpaired electrons (that is, processes involving the transfer of electrons along the chain of cytochromes and associated reactions of oxidative phosphorylation). His concept also explains the mechanisms for some enzymatic reactions, the oxidation of non-heme iron by oxygen, and certain stages of photosynthesis.
Dr. Walleczek goes on to show a 35a increase in redox activity in cytochrome c-oxidase with a static magnetic field of 3 Gauss and a 40% increase with a 50-Hertz (Hz) sinusoidal magnetic field.Adverse Effects of Simultaneous Negative/Positive Magnetism
Dr. Nakagawa added information to his discovery of declining earth magnetism by stating that when approximately 850 Gauss of magnetic field flux density is delivered within a static magnetic field, the relief of many distressing biological symptoms occurs. Then he further affirmed that the beneficial effects of magnet use for therapy lasts only about three weeks. After that, the applied magnets tend to become stressful for the various body parts to which they are attached.
Dr. Nakagawa appears to never have uncovered the reason for such magnet distress. He had not detected a certain phenomenon in nature. W-hat this Japanese scientist didn't know is that with both magnetic poles being administered to a person's body simultaneously, various unpleasant overtaking effects make their appearance. The negative (north) and positive (south) poles of magnets utilized together produce an overtaxing physiological burden to the point of pathology.
Inasmuch as Dr. Nakagawa had mistakenly assumed that both magnetic poles, north and south, produce the same biological response, he proceeded to develop commercial applications of magnets in the form of footpads, arm slings, blanket-like comforters, bed pads. mattresses, and other advantageous items. Unfortunately for the users, such products simultaneously provide exposure to both negative (biomagnetic north) and positive (biomagnetic south) magnetic fields.
Orthomolecular psychiatrist William H. Philpott, MD, who left off his nutrition-based psychiatric therapies to turn full attention to medical magnetism, advises that negative magnetic energy has an antistress effect no matter how long the exposure. Dr. Philpott clearly confirms that prolonged exposure to both poles simultaneously becomes highly stressful and a source of disease.
Dean Bonlie, DDS, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the North American Academy of 'Magnetic Therapy, and full-time magnetic researcher for the last ten years, also agrees. Dr. Bonlie theorizes that the positive or mixed positive and negative fields applied to the body elicit emergency-type physiological responses by slowing down the unpaired valence electrons which orbit the body's structural atoms. This reduction of velocity causes a decrease in the molecular action, impeding the cellular function which reduces production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), thus lowering cell wall potential and leading to anoxia of the cell.
Microscopic View of Red Blood Cells
Figure 1- Before MagnetiCo Sleep Pad Note the clumping of red blood cells, typical of fatigue, stress or health problems ...present in most North Americans in varying degrees.
Figure 2 - After 20 Minutes on MagnetiCo Sleep Pad The increased magnetic field of the MagnetiCo Sleep Pad restores cellular energy to the red blood cells (required for a healthy state), allowing them to repel each other, freeing up much more surface area to carry oxygen Anoxia (a total lack of oxygen within the tissues) triggers the brain through biofeedback to initiate several physiological responses.
Anoxia tends to:
(1) Increase blood flow into the area of 'stimulus in order to raise oxygen tension so as to overcome lack of cell wall potential
(2) Increase electrical flow via the Qi (vitality) electrical system to enhance magnetic resonance in the mitochondria,
Thus elevating ATP production
(3) Increase blood levels of beta endorphins to reduce pain
(4) Increase blood levels of ACTH and secretin
(5) Decrease blood levels of cortisol
The elevated electrical flow does heighten molecular action, but it will eventually deplete the body's emergency supply of vitality. The positive field user is left with low energy reserves and can fall into a chronic state of fatigue with reduced immunity.Dr. Bonlie's basic premise is that because our body cells orientate themselves to the polarity of the earth in which they develop, an increased amount of that same polarity of field will enhance molecular action by speeding up unpaired valence electrons of the body's structural atoms and molecules. In the Northern Hemisphere a negative field is needed to replicate the earth's field, and in the Southern Hemisphere one would use the positive field as the supplement. Conversely, by presenting the opposite polarity of field to cells rather than the natural environmental one, a slowing down of molecular activity occurs. The stimulatory responses elicited by the slowing effect are very similar to an acupuncture treatment response.
To an audience of health scientists attending the 1999 conference of the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy, Saul Liss, Ph.D., presented a paper entitled. "Static and Pulsed Electromagnets Alter the Levels of Neurobiochemicals". The Liss presentation supports the existence of this bipolar magnetic field/acupuncture combination response. During that same 1999 NAAMT conference, Dr. Dean Bonlie provided his research showing the importance of direction of field when using magnets. In the acupuncture profession, practitioners are taught to space treatments far enough apart so as not to deplete the Qi. In the same manner, bipolar field applications should be used intermittently to avoid vitality depletion.
Magnetic Marketing Mania
Today consumers often are being sold quantities of magnetic products, which either last therapeutically for only a limited period, or they don't accomplish any benefit at all, or the products actually bring on symptoms of organ distress. This circumstance exists because any magnetic product next to the body will of necessity be giving a bipolar field. There is always a "bleedback" area of the opposite polarity around any magnet. So even if the negative side of a magnet is toward the body, around it appears a halo effect of the positive polarity, which produces stimulatory responses from the brain, and these promote healing on the short term. This is what thousands of people who have been relieved of aches and pains rave about. Magnets are not total miracles, but they are definitely worth trying. (See Diagrams A. B, C, D showing a comparison of commercial sleep pads placed under and on top of a mattress and their effect on symptoms of fibromyalgia.)Currently, magnetic beds (a bed with magnets inside of a mattress or a mattress pad) are manufactured by numbers of companies around the world. The same stimulatory principle, of bipolar fields directly next to the body holds true for bed pads, even if they are presented with the negative side up. It also has a more profound effect on the individual because it affects the entire body throughout the hours of sleep, which should be for the normal restoration processes rather than for stimulation. Any magnet pad placed on top of the mattress will be giving bipolar fields and in time will have a vitality depleting potential. All magnet bed products should be placed under the mattress to avoid the peaks of positive polarity emanating up into the body. The peaks will vary in intensity according to the size, spacing, and strength of magnets.
The MagnetiCo, Inc Power Sleep Pads, designed and manufactured by Dean Bonlie, DDS, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, specifically offers a pure negative field as it is placed that is placed under the mattress. Each sleep pad is engineered correctly with sufficient numbers, strength, and size of magnets to penetrate the mattress and body with a pure magnetic field equivalent to the earth's field of 5 Gauss as it occurred 5000 years ago. While sleeping on Dr. Bonlie's design, the negative field tends to recharge one's body and produce physiological benefits.
Sleeping on the MagnetiCo mattress offers only an enhancement of physiological benefits, and it provides an effect gentle enough for everyone from infants to centenarians. In Canada, the MagnetiCo Sleep/Mattress Pad is patented and licensed by the Canadian Health Protection Branch, that nation's version of the USFDA.
Advanced Magnetic Research: the Magnetic Molecular Energizer
"In my opinion. Dr. Dean Bonlie deserves to be a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his development of the Magnetic Molecular Energizer (MME)," declares Trent Nichols, MD. "I have seen the MME be instrumental in the elimination of numerous health problems."
Thus, the MagnetiCo Sleep Pads, as basic and good as they are at the environmental restorative level have not been the end of Dr. Bonlie's inventive magnetic journey. Because of the solid evidence of his theory on magnetism's effects at the atomic level, Dr. Bonlie has gone on to develop a high-strength magnetic device mentioned by Dr. Nichols, who is one of the physician investigators testing the Magnetic Molecular Energizer.
There are now three MME clinics operating in the United States and conducting studies under an Institutional Review Board (IRB). The clinical studies will be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration in seeking approval for their general therapeutic application. The MNIE is showing great promise in the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) ailments, such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke damage, spinal cord injuries, and chronic fatigue/burnout. Cerebral palsy patients ranging in age from 18 months to 64 years are gaining or regaining functions they had lost, indicating the tremendous potential of the MME device. The healing time for orthopedic conditions is dramatically reduced with radiologically documented repair of herniated disks. This truly is the highest level of energy healing currently known.
"Dr. Bonlie cites a pharmacology professor who stated: "The perfect healing agent is one in which you can increase the positive effects 1.000 times by increasing the dose 1.000 times without negative side effects." The MME definitely proves this maxim. It is completely safe, noninvasive, and achieving results only dreamed of in prior times. At the lower end of this therapeutic spectrum, of course, is the MagnetiCo Sleep Pad, which gently provides a beneficial restored geomagnetic field to the whole body during one's natural rebuilding time of sleep. Dr. Bonlie's magnetic mattresses have been well tested and tried for ten years, and dispensed for use by children and adults alike. As mentioned, the mattress is a licensed medical device in Canada.
Leonard Smith, MD, Says It's the Ultimate Antiaging Device
Having treated a wide variety of patients suffering from cancer, vascular disease, and other pathologies, Leonard Smith, MD, of Gainesville, Florida has practiced as a general surgeon for 23 years. During the past 15 years he has adjunctively added nutritional medicine, stress management, intravenous supplementation, and lifestyle improvements to his standard modalities. More recently, magnetic therapy is a main augmentation to Dr. Smith's program of health maintenance for his patients.
"The particular magnetic therapy I am most involved with is technology created by Dr. Dean Bonlie who has found the means to send only the negative field completely through patients using magnets laminated in sleep pads which are placed under their mattresses. The Bonlie method of magnetic therapy enhances energy production, cellular detoxification, and vascular flow for my patients," Dr. Smith says. "As for myself, I have personally used the magnetic mattress to deepen my sleep and eliminate muscle aches from exercising too much. I definitely notice the difference in my sense of wellbeing when I am traveling and not sleeping on the magnetic mattress. While I don't believe it is any kind of `magic bullet', I do like using the magnetic mattress in combination with other methods.
"My patients enjoy using the magnetic mattress as well. For example, Joe, a 56-year-old real estate broker from Bradenton, Florida consulted me for the treatment of three troubles: chronic insomnia, lack of energy akin to chronic fatigue syndrome, and general stress. I provided Joe with a pure, negatively charged magnetic mattress to sleep on and. the real estate broker saw most of his symptoms disappear right away. He experienced more energy, greater vitality, less stress, and better sleep that is fuller and sounder," states Dr. Smith.
"All magnets are not created equal," he affirms. "We know that negative magnetic energy restores cellular energy. decreases free radical activity, opens detoxification pathways, stimulates glutathione to work, and eliminates toxic buildup. Since a magnetic mattress accomplishes all this and more, it is the ultimate antiaging device.
"The MagnetiCo mattress produces a magnetic antioxidant field to provide body balance - a homeostasis. Dr. Bonlie has found the formula for capturing that part of the magnetic field most biologically synergistic. Its magnetism goes through the patient to benefit human physiology," explains Dr. Leonard Smith. "The other types of manufactured magnets have only temporary results because they are providing both a positive and negative magnetism. High quality sleep, a benefit the MagnetiCo mattress offers, stops a person's catabolic state - which is a destructive condition. Among the first two questions I ask my new patients are how well do you sleep and when do you dream? Good sleep stimulates the natural production of human growth hormone for sustaining youthfulness."
Glen Wilcoxson, MD, Finds Antiarthritic and AntiCFIDS Effects"I have used Dr. Bonlie's magnetic mattress for myself with marked benefit. What happened is that I experienced a reduction in my muscle and joint stiffness, and this effect never went away. It left me flexible. His product's purely negative magnetism also elevates my energy level and allows me to sleep exceedingly well," says Glen Wilcoxson, MD, of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Dr. Wilcoxson is trained in anesthesia and emergency room medicine, but his main interest currently is holistic and biological medicine.
"I dispense the magnetic mattress to my patients for purposes of holistic therapy, but the mattress is not a stock item in my office. Instead, I have it shipped directly to the patient's home by MagnetiCo, Inc. Dr. Bonlie's bed product is excellent for the treatment of chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), arthritis, and other rheumatoid diseases," Dr. Wilcoxson affirms. "This magnetic mattress has a particularly striking antiarthritic effect which reduces or eliminates inflammation. I depend on it for helping my arthritic patients to overcome chronic joint pain."
The Magnetic Restoration Hypothesis of David Edwards, MD"I sleep on the MagnetiCo Sleep Pad because it furnishes me with real benefits such as increased energy, fabulously satisfying sleep, and the sense of feeling more relaxed in my high powered preventive medicine California practices - I
conduct three separate practices - in Fresno, Burbank, and Merced." David Edwards, MD informs us. Dr. Edwards is one of the four founding members of the American College for Advancement in Medicine (formerly the American Academy of Medical Preventics)."Because Dr. Bonlie's product is placed below the standard mattress and not on top of it, the cones of positive field energy do not extend up into the body. The sleeping person receives only a purely negative field," Dr. Edwards says. "The Bonlie mattress works, and I have a valid hypothesis as to why.
"My theory is that our tissues acquire a deficiency of anabolic or regulatory agents in several ways," asserts Dr. Edwards. "First, the dysfunctioning body undergoes a decrease in blood circulation due to arteriosclerosis or from chronic pressure placed on the ailing tissues. This pressure comes almost entirely from gravity. Second, most persons' tissues tend to possess an excess of toxic substances such as uric acid, lactic acid, urea, catabolic end products of metabolism, etc. Finally, there is an increase of inflammation from one or more disease processes taking place in every person's body.
"All of these accumulated impairments work toward stopping the normal flow of metabolites which brings about an electrically positive reaction. Such a reaction causes calcium ions to deposit - the condition which Hans Selye, MD. referred to in his classic book as `calciphylaxis' also known as `calcinosis'," recalls Dr. Edwards. "When tissues become electrically positive a person deposits calcium inside of the interstitial spaces between cells, both intracellularly and extracellularly. The resulting calcifications become metabolic tombstones demarking adverse metabolic activity.
"In conclusion," Dr. Edwards explains. "by restoring the natural negativity of the earth during the night with the negatively charging magnetic mattress to our damaged positively charged bodies, we are aided in remaining electrically negative so that the physiology's required alkalinity is maintained. This is how I believe that using the magnetic mattress made by MagnetiCo, Inc. brings people a restoration of good health."
~~~~~~~Studied Effects of a Static Magnetic Field on Fibromyalgia~~~~~~~
A family practice physician. George Lewis, MD, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was working with patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia, the syndrome characterized by chronic musculoskeletal pain, chronic fatigue, nonrestorative sleep, and psychological distress. According to the American College of Rheumatology, there are two main criteria for the condition's diagnosis. They must contain (1) a history of widespread musculoskeletal pain lasting for at least three months, and pain in eleven or more of 18 tender points on digital palpation.'
It's believed that disordered central nervous system functions are linked to the peripheral muscle pain, fatigue, and psychological disturbances, which bring on fibromyalgia. Patients may develop symptoms after febrile illness. They exhibit the features of chronic fatigue syndrome or myalgic encephalomyelitis. More than 90% of fibromyalgia patients are women, and no specific method of treatment exists."'After years of using established but ineffectual treatment protocols for his fibromyalgia patients. Dr. George Lewis came upon the similarities of their symptoms with the pathologies predominant in Dr. Nakagawa's magnetic field deficiency syndrome. Subsequently, Dr. Lewis decided to apply magnetic treatment based on Dr. Nakagawa's findings. His intent was to induce complementary magnetic energy of 3 Gauss for extended periods for his patients as an adjunctive protocol. Fortunately Dr. Lewis called upon the magnetism engineer, Dean Bonlie, DDS. to work with him. As described. Dr. Bonlie's MagnetiCo Sleep Pad does not follow the positive/negative magnet program utilized by advocates of Dr. Nakagawa's concepts. Dr. Bonlie's MagnetiCo Sleep Pad produced 3 Gauss of negative static magnetic field in which Dr. Lewis' fibromyalgic patients were enveloped whenever they rested in bed. The study was simultaneously double-blinded and placebo-controlled.
Of 29 fibromyalgia patients, nine received placebo bed pads containing 1inch by 2-inch by 3/8-inch laminated ceramics but no magnetism. Twenty were dispensed bed pads with the same size, laminated ceramics, but they were magnetically charged bed pads. The ceramics were placed one-inch apart into each pad, which was situated between the mattress and box spring of a patient's bed. Such placement caused the body to lie six to ten inches above the magnetic source, depending on the patient's mattress thickness. At the point of entry, a 3 gauss magnetic field passed into the body, which lost approximately one gauss field strength as it traveled through human tissue.
The study administrators did not know which pads were charged or uncharged. All products had been numbered and the key to their numbering was held by a chartered (certified public) accountant until the six-month trial period was finished. All 29 patients completed this study; and each person was evaluated by two physicians at least three times during the study: at the start, during the middle four months, and at the end of six months. Medical records and the first interview formed the base line with subsequent examinations and interviews allowing for score assessment.
The charged bed pads caused a 3 Gauss magnetic field to pass through the body for effecting improvement of fibromyalgic symptoms. Improvements were determined by observing patient changes in five categories:
l. General health improvement
2. Energy level improvement
3. Pain decrease at pressure points
4. Sleep improvement
5. Medication reduction
In this placebo-controlled, double blind study of fibromyalgia, the result for participants was significant. The 20 magnetically treated patients showed an average improvement of 34.5% (whereas the placebo patients recorded a 14.4% improvement. For relieving fibromyalgia discomforts, therefore, there was a 2.4 times greater response to magnet treatment. And this was therapy administered to patients for whom nothing else had worked.Note: Dr. Bonlie currently uses stronger magnetic pads with the standard model giving 5 Gauss, but a 20-Gauss version may be utilized for extreme conditions of ill health. The stronger pads have two and eight times the number of magnets respectively, as those used in the Lewis fibromyalgia study.
